Akot Lual arrested over Jonglei violence
July 22, 2020 (SSNN) – South Sudan president’s advisor on minority affairs, Akot Lual, has been arrested by National Security Service in the country’s capital Juba, after a section of the Bor community accused him of arming Murle community.
Sources speaking to South Sudan News Now said from Juba that Akot was arrested on Saturday night in central Juba and was being held by the national security service at its headquarters in Jebel.
“Mr. Akot Lual, the envoy of President Salva Kiir to Pibor has been arrested by the National Security Service (NSS). He was arrested in Juba town on Saturday because of the violence that is going on between tribes in Jonglei state,” the source said from Juba.
Another source was quoted by Nyamilepedia as saying that the “The order to arrest him comes from the committee headed by vice president James Wani.”
“When Wani go to Bor last week, people of Bor told him that Akot Lual is providing weapons to militia of Pibor and kill people in their land.”
